Disability Services

The Office of Disability Services

Walden’s Office of Disability Services offers a broad range of resources to help support the needs of all learners, including those with physical, emotional, and cognitive disabilities. To help our students reach their full professional and personal potential, we offer the following accommodations:

The Online Classroom

Walden’s online learning environment allows for broad access to learning regardless of a student’s geographic location.

Additional accommodations will be determined, on a case-by-case basis, by the Office of Disability Services. Typical accommodation requests include allowing additional time to complete assignments or providing course materials in an electronic format for learners with vision loss or certain learning disabilities. There is a limit to the amount of extra time allowed as an accommodation, and that limit is based on individual course curriculum.

Face-to-Face Residencies

Many Walden programs feature face-to-face academic residences where students meet for four to six days in conference centers and college campuses across the nation. Walden can provide extensive accommodations for students with disabilities required to participate in these academic residencies.

Accommodations for students with disabilities can include

  • Renting specialized equipment, such as electric scooters and Hoyer lifts for transportation from wheelchair to bed or bath
  • Coordinating arrangements with nearby dialysis centers
  • Hiring local service providers, such as sight guides, sign-language interpreters, or captionists
